About Essoula™

Founded by Rita Chew and Tina Modrovich in 2004, Essoula, Inc. is the discoverer and sole developer of aromatherapy enhanced ultrasound gels. The company’s products provide a non-pharmaceutical solution for helping anxious ultrasound patients relax.

Rita Chew and Tina Modrovich

Rita Chew came up with the idea of enhancing ultrasound gel with essential aromatherapy oils when one of her patients became anxious during an ultrasound procedure. Chew asked the patient to inhale the aroma of lavender oil she had placed on a tissue. The patient relaxed, the ultrasound was successful, and the idea was born.

Rita Chew holds the designations of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS), Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), and Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), and has worked in the ultrasound industry for over 20 years, including 10 years as an international clinical applications specialist.

Tina Modrovich is a healing arts practitioner with more than 15 years experience specializing in Reiki healing, reflexology, aromatherapy and spiritual energy therapy.

Our Mission

Essoula’s goal is to alleviate the anxiety commonly associated with diagnostic medical procedures by positively impacting both patient and clinician. Our carefully selected essential oils combined with traditional ultrasound transmission gel results in a product that offers a relaxing and nurturing alternative to the traditional ultrasound experience.
